How to Secure Your Larger Heavier Wall Clocks on the Wall

Wall clocks are an amazing and fascinating subject to explore. With the variety of shapes and sizes, you can always expect the unexpected just when you thought you saw it all. Today with all the forms of wall hanging timepieces, one has to be sure when it comes to larger and heaver clocks, that when you hang them on a wall, you are careful enough to hang the clock securely so that your artful display of time will remain safely on the wall.

In order to hang a heavier wall clock on the wall, you must do certain things to make sure your clock will remain in place without doing damage to your wall and possible damage to your clock. If you follow the procedures that I have set forth below, you will have a wall timepiece that will remain in place without any damaging effects whatsoever.

The first thing you have to do is make sure you find a secure section of your wall to fasten your clock. This is done by using a tool that is called a Stud Finder. Behind your plasterboard or drywall walls are support wooden frames called studs. These studs are made from long wood pieces of 2 inch by 4 inch boards. The vertical sections of these frames behind your walls are generally constructed about 18 inches apart along the inner wall.

In order to find exactly where these stud boards are located behind your wall, you will need to use an electronic device called a stud finder. You can find these stud finders at any hardware or home improvement store. With a stud finder you will be able to locate the stud inside your wall near the location you intend to hang your heavy wall clock.

Once you have found the stud behind the wall, make a pencil mark on the wall where you intend to hang your clock. When determining the correct location of inserting a large wood screw into the wall in order to hang your clock, be sure to take into account the position of the hanger located on the back side of the clock.

After you have determined the exact position to insert the screw into the wall, with a hand drill and a tiny drill bit, drill a tiny hole into the wall making sure you drill through the stud. Next, after you drilled your tiny hole into the wall, insert your large wood screw. Make sure you screw the screw in only far enough so the head of the screw sticks out from the wall enough to support the clock. A quarter to a half inch out from the wall should be enough to support the heavy clock. Hang your clock and enjoy.

On the other hand, there are some cases where the stud behind the wall is not located in a position where you intend to hang your timepiece. In this situation the solution to this is using what is called a screw anchor. These screw anchors are available in plastic and metal. There are styles of screw anchors available for a variety of wall hanging projects.

These screw anchors come in different shapes and sizes. Depending on how much weight your wall clock is will determine what style and size screw anchor will be necessary to hang your clock. The employees at your local hardware or home improvement store will have the knowledge to help you determine exactly what type of screw anchor is appropriate for your clock hanging situation. Just tell them exactly what you intend to do.

Once you have determined what type of screw anchor to use, drill an appropriate size hole into the wall. Always make sure you account for the position of the hanger on the back of the clock when positioning your clock hanging screw. After you have inserted the correct screw anchor into the wall, with a screw attached and sticking out from the wall one quarter to one half inch, gently hang your clock. Make sure that your clock is securely in place. Enjoy your clock.

If you are placing a heavy wall clock on a masonry or brick wall the same procedures apply. Determine exactly where on the wall you wish to drill a hole to hang your clock, but with masonry or brick walls use metal screw anchors only.

Hanging a heavy wall clock is not a difficult project when done correctly. There are certain procedures and tools to make the job easy to complete. All you have to know are a few easy steps.

How To Install A Wall Candle Holder Safely

The first thing you have to do when safely installing a wall candle holder is to choose a wall sconce that has built in safety features. Always choose a candle holder that has a hurricane glass or some other kind of glass that completely surrounds the candle from top to bottom. This feature will eliminate the possibility of wax getting on your walls, floors or carpet.

The next thing to do is position the wall candle far enough away from flammable objects such as curtains, wall art, coat racks and any other objects that could catch fire if your sconce is positioned too close.
Now you should consider how high on the wall you should place your sconce. To determine how high on the wall your candle holder should be you have to consider your personal circumstances. Take into consideration if you have children or seniors around. Could your pet get too close? Is this sconce to be placed in a high people traffic area?

Once you have considered how high on the wall you need to hang your candle holder, the next thing to do is make sure you attach the sconce to the wall very securely. You have two very safe ways to safely secure your wall candle holder to the wall. You always want to make sure that your sconce will remain on the wall at all times.

The first way to hang your wall sconce is to use a wall anchor. These wall anchors come in a variety of screw sizes. Because of the different anchor sizes, you want to make sure that the anchor you use is the correct size to match the screw you will eventually screw into the anchor. If the anchor is too big for the screw, the wall candle holder will not be secured to the wall properly. As a candle burns there is a weight shift that could cause the candle holder to tip and this could cause candle wax to spill or the candle itself to fall. Be careful to insert the correct wall anchor into the wall so that the wall sconce will be attached properly.

Your other choice for hanging your wall candle is to use mounting brackets that are used for hanging wall planters and other heavy wall hanging objects. These mounting brackets are found at most home improvement and hardware stores. You can also find them online. Do a search and in no time you will find the best wall hanging bracket for your sconce.

Another thing to do is light the candle and drip melted wax on the candle holder base. Immediately place the candle on top of the melted wax so the candle is securely bonded to the candle holder. This way, if the candle holder is tilted, the candle will not fall off of the holder.

So now let’s review this entire wall candle holder installation safety procedure.

1. Make sure your sconce has some sort of glass enclosure so melted wax stays on the holder
2. Make sure the placement of your wall candle is free from fire hazards.
3. Consider how high on the wall you should place the sconce according to your personal circumstances.
4. Securely attach the wall candle holder using the correct wall anchors or mounting brackets.
5. Drip melted wax on the base of the candle holder and place the candle on the melted wax to create a strong bond to the candle holder base.

There you have it. With careful preparation, your wall sconce will flicker with beauty for many years. You can rest assured that you have considered all the possible hazards and removed them from possibly occurring.

Nursery Wall Decor - Lullabies and Stimuli

It's the most fantastic, breath taking and scariest day of your life. You are bringing home the most precious possession that you alone are responsible for. Over the last nine months you have devoured every book imaginable on how to take care of your new bundle of joy. You have also spent hours thumbing through numerous catalogs and magazines to decorate the room that your newborn will spend most of its time in. You are aware that this special place can be the key for your child's development. Before this child becomes a reality you just know that everything has to be perfect.

The main theme that has appeared from all that you have read is that you must make this room a place of learning, cozy and comforting. It must have a feeling of love and warmth and the security for the child to be his or herself and grow. Since you will also be spending most of your time there you need to appreciate the room as well. Remember if you are happy and relaxed so will your child.

The first step for the walls is to choose a color schemes. Studies have shown that it is best to choose colors that are light, clear and breezy. Dark shades offer a non stimulating environment and can make the room feel closed in and smaller. Introducing warm colors like rose, peach or primrose helps create a feeling of coziness and adventure. The sooner the baby feels at home in the room the better for everyone involved in its care.

Have fun and be creative and most of all keep safety in mind. Making the perfect space for your little one can be a wonderful experience. You want to make certain whatever wall decor you choose, this will be a place that is comforting and will surround the child with slumber and lullabies and stimuli.

Children grow faster then you expect so try to pick a theme that will grow with your child. You might choose just to do wallpaper borders or stick-ups that can easily be removed when your child has a mind of their own. Another idea is to choose a theme that you can keep adding to as the child develops. Make his or her room one that they will enjoy for years and everyone will win.

Some popular themes are characters from nursery rhymes and fairy tails. When they reach the toddler years these pictures on their walls will be recognized as friends from the stories they have been told over and over again. Animals and flowers are a couple of other soothing themes I might suggest. Whatever you finally decide on, a must for all new parents is to purchase a wall covering that is washable and easy to remove.

In early childhood children have trouble distinguishing what is real from what is imaginary. Whatever characters you decide on, the images should be gentle and definitely not scary.

Consider incorporating shapes, circles, triangles and rectangles also with geometric shapes. It is known that these shapes will allow a child to focus better on objects, which will be a boost to their development. Try to also incorporate colorful patchwork designs and a combination of textures.

The goal to keep in mind when deciding on a theme, color, design and material is that you want wall decor that will attract your babies attention but not overwhelm them so they find it too stimulating to relax.

This is the best time of your life and the excitement that is inside of you is sure to spark your enthusiasm and will automatically generate exciting decor ideas.

Wall Murals - Learn the 2 Basic Mural Types & How to Install Them

Have you been thinking about wall murals for one of your rooms? Find out what the two basic types are and the various methods to put either type of mural on your wall. Is it possible to do it yourself or will you need help? See what the answers are to these questions. With either type, you can have a beautiful wall mural of your choice on your wall all in good time.

Murals are basically large images direclty applied or painted on a wall, ceiling or other large surface. We all have seen examples, if not in homes, in schools, museums, restaurants, hospitals, on outside walls and other places. You've got to admit that they are dramatic.

Wall murals perhaps began when prehistoric man or woman wanted to visually express thoughts and decided to do so on cave walls. We all know of the famous locations around the world including France and the American Southwest where we can find such examples. Much more recently in human history we have the fresco murals of Michelangelo on the Sistine Chapel and other Vatican buildings.

There was a teacher's assistant whose mother was an artist. Her mom, the artist, would visit each grandchild's home and paint a wall mural in their room just for them. It would be nice if each of us had such an artist in the family. Think of the memories for these kids! But murals aren't just for kids. Murals can really create an ambiance that no other wall decor can replicate. Imagine your favorite scene on that wall inside your castle, your cave...

Wall murals come in two basic types: those that are applied and others that are painted onto your wall. Applied murals can include:

  • solid vinyl fabric
  • hanging murals
  • window cling murals
  • ceramic tile murals
  • sticker murals

With an applied wall mural, if you're not comfortable doing the "affixing" yourself, there are directories such as the Guild of Professional Paperhangers and National Tile Contractors Association that will help you locate a competent professional.

Painting a mural on a wall can be done by a professionial, a friend, family member...or you. Painting wall murals can be accomplished in a number of ways including:

  • paint by number wall murals
  • wall mural stencils
  • image projection
  • painting wall murals free hand

Most anybody can do a painted mural the first three ways: by number, image projection or stencil. Free hand may require some giftedness. If your gifts reside in other areas of your life - and even here there are work-arounds - and you don't have a friend or family member to do a mural, it is easy enough to find a decorative painter in many areas of the country, especially metropolitan regions. You can consult a resource such as the International Directory of Decorative Painters.

The subject matter of your wall mural is almost limitless. You can grace your wall with various themes including:

  • wildlife
  • flowers
  • nautical
  • beach
  • fantasy
  • citiscapes
  • people
  • nature
  • sports
  • retro
  • tropical
  • vintage posters
  • transportation
  • art masterpieces
  • etc.

If this large variety doesn't do it for you, you can provide your own image. That's right, you can even do custom murals. Create a mural of one of your favorite photos, illustrations or images as long as you have the copyright or permission. In another twist, you order a stock mural but have it personalized for you. For instance, there might be a cat in the mural. You can have your favorite feline inserted in place of the one in the stock image.

You might be lucky enough to find all these mural possibilities in your neck of the woods. It's possible, though not likely. The good thing is you can find great online sources for both applied and painted wall murals including the varied themes. The Internet makes ordering even a custom mural easy. Without doing more than a few mouse click, you could transform a wall. In a matter of days, your blank wall can become a visual story creating a surrounding unlike any other. What do you want on your wall? Imagine!

Wall Panels of Different Kinds Transform Interiors

Wall panels can cover existing bare walls of brick and concrete and provide you interiors that are far more pleasing to live and work in. Alternatively, wall panels can create complete new walls. They come in different materials, forms and properties. The range is increasing along with the development of relevant technologies.

A Look at the varied Kinds of Wall Panels

There are the traditional wood plank wall panels that provide a rustic and rough-hewn look to dwellings. There are also luxurious wood panels made of polished oak and expensive wood like teak and rosewood that can provide a great look to the interiors of commercial establishments and residential mansions.

Aluminum, plastics, composites and other materials are replacing wood in modern walls. These materials eliminate the problems of wood such as accumulation of difficult-to-remove dirt, dampness, insect attacks and high maintenance costs.

Wall panels can create complete walls, as curtain walls do, or be installed to cover existing walls.

Curtain walls are non-load-bearing walls often made of transparent or translucent materials like glass or plastics. Loads are borne in these buildings by other structural elements like frames and columns, with the walls bearing only their own weight. Curtain walls can create superb effects and provide thermal and solar control.

Lighter wall panels can be installed over existing brick or other walls using nails, staples or glue. Nails are best on wooden surfaces, staples for when wooden battening is used and glue for even, dry, grease-free walls. Where walls are damp or uneven, treated-wood battening is fixed first on the walls and the wall panels are fixed to these. End profiles are used to finish the ends. Use of battening allows space for cables for power supply and communication.

Translucent plastic wall panels can allow in daylight creating a pleasing interior effect. Made with plastics, these panels can incorporate useful properties, such as filtering harmful UV rays and insulating against heat and noise. Energy savings can result as natural daylight replaces artificial lighting and heat insulation prevents heat loss in winter and heat gain in summer.

Aluminum, steel and composites can provide desired structural qualities in addition to pleasing appearance and lesser maintenance needs.

Modern materials have made it possible to produce wall panels in different colors, shapes, sizes and thickness to create desired effects or meet special requirements.

Wall panels have indeed come a long way since the days of pine wood planks.

Wall panels can be standalone walls like curtain walls or coverings over existing walls to beautify them and/or provide other benefits. Wall panels made with modern materials like aluminum, plastics and composites can eliminate the problems of wooden panels, such as accumulation of difficult-to-remove dirt, proneness to rot and the need for regular maintenance.

Modern materials can also create wall panels to meet special requirements and create special effects, such as extra thick walls or translucent walls that allows in natural daylight but not harmful UV rays.

Fitting the wall panels can also be done in different ways to suit existing structures.

Wall Shelving Systems to Satisfy Every Requirement

Wall shelving units are great ideas to maximize floor space and organize storage, especially where accommodation comes at a premium. But high premium accommodation is usually associated with trendy penthouses or up market condos. In such an environment you will want to make sure that the wall shelving unit matches the decor of your accommodation. Modern furniture showrooms have extended ranges of wall shelving units to suit your most specific requirement.

The kind of wall shelving unit you should buy depends on a number of factors. One of the most critical of these factors is the location of the wall shelving unit. That and the space available in that location. For example, you want a wall shelving unit over on the east wall. There is a projection on that wall at a height of...? You must know the exact height of the projection because it will obstruct the wall shelving unit if the wall shelving unit is higher than it is. Other choices include free-standing or wall-mounted wall shelving units. That choice depends on how permanently the wall shelving units are located.

The load you'll place on the wall shelving units are yet another important factor in the choice of a wall shelving unit. You'll require a heavy metal wall shelving unit for heavy loads, a glass or wood wall shelving unit for light to moderate loads, and wireframe units for those bulky goods which may not be very heavy. Make the best use of the range of wall shelving units that are available to you. A good choice will mean more convenience, more storage, and more floor space!

Survey the market thoroughly before buying a wall shelving unit. There are so many styles and varieties available that you'll be able to get the exact shade of color that you want in any particular style and variety. So don't hesitate to think out loud when you go window shopping for the ideal wall shelving unit.

What are the broad categories of wall shelving units? These categories are free-standing, hanging, modular, adjustable, or fixed. Then there are special categories like the track-type wall shelving unit. This wall shelving unit can be reconfigured very easily and very quickly. You can change almost everything about this type of wall shelving unit. Really amazing!

There are other types of wall shelving units too. Which to use depends on individual requirements. For a child's room it is best to get an wall-mounted wall shelving unit with adjustable shelves. For a library, choose a wall-mounted wall shelving unit with fixed shelves.

A free-standing wall shelving unit is best suited for a designer's room where the room is completely made over every few weeks to make a presentation to a client. Don't use a free-standing wall shelving unit to hold heavy articles. It is always a good idea to anchor a free-standing wall shelving unit to the wall so that it doesn't topple over.

All in all, there are so many choices, so many options available to you that it is both easy and difficult to make a choice of wall shelving unit. Suffice it to say that you will not be disappointed in getting the wall shelving unit according to your exact specification. You can order your wall shelving unit as-it-is directly from the showroom, or get yours custom-assembled. A wall shelving unit is a great way to organize your storage. At the same time you utilize the wall space which would otherwise be wasted. This utilization of vertical space frees up valuable floor space. So let's go shopping for a brand new wall shelving unit. Like I said, you'll be spoilt for choice!

Framed Wall Mirror Guilty or Not?

If you are wondering what I meant by this title, let me explain. What all home owners are looking for is that one piece that is exquisite yet functional. What they all yearn for is this main focal point for their décor as someone enters the room. They want an object in their homes that is striking and pleasing to the eye. In fact they are hoping that you won’t be able to take your eyes off of it. The framed wall mirror can give you this effect. It can be mesmerizing and demands ones attention.

The framed wall mirror is the perfect touch for any room. It enables you to transform an ordinary space into an extraordinary display of charm and grace. It can be the main attraction or be just the right accent to pull together the entire look.

Mirrors are usually a piece of glass with a metal coating. The coating produces the reflection that allows us to see ourselves. What draws people to mirrors are the frames. The right frame can propel a mirror beyond its practical use. It heightens the ambience and reflects the beauty of your home.

Framed mirrors give the impression of the room to be larger then it is. It helps create the illusion of space and adds light into the room. They are a work of art and come in a wealth of styles, shapes, finishes and sizes. They appeal to a wide demographic area. Unlike some purchases, many of the sales for these are impulse buys. This has helped the framing industry thrive.

When choosing a framed wall mirror it is best to find one that complements the other furniture and accessories in the room. It makes a stunning statement in entranceways, living rooms, dinning rooms or bedrooms. They are available in oval, round, square and rectangular shapes. There is a framed mirror to fit any wall imaginable. No matter what type of décor your house cries out for you can find them in modern, contemporary, traditional, or Victorian styles. Wood, wrought iron, resin, fiberglass, metal and antiqued are a few materials they are made from. To blend with your furniture they come in an assortment of finishes such as mahogany, espresso, black, gold and antique white.

A framed mirror can be hung on a wall the same way as framed artwork. It should be hung on a sturdy wire attached to the back of the mirror and then hung off a single hook. For a heavier wall mirror the best method is to attach an anchor and a hook right into the wall stud. Most manufacturers will include the hardware for easy installation.

In my home I have an antiqued gold leaf framed wall mirror above my fireplace in the living room. I also added sconces and plants around it for an additional touch of elegance and style. The most elaborate look that I have seen was a framed mirror that was added to an entire mirrored wall. This produced a marvelous accent for a formal setting.

If your home is of modern design let me suggest you match several small framed mirrors together. For a chic elegant look try a white distressed wood frame or if you have several antiques it would be best to stay with the same type of frame as the rest of your furniture. The price varies on the size, material and quality of the frame. I am certain there is one to fit every budget.

It’s elegance, versatility and durability makes the framed wall mirror guilty as charged!

Paint a Wall Mural

Painting a wall mural in your home is one of the most popular ways today to decorate your home. You can really express yourself in a way truly unique. No matter what your décor may be, it is possible to paint a wall mural that will match your colors and designs perfectly if you so desire.

Before starting your wall mural, you will need to do some research and preparation. Naturally, you will have to decide on which wall of your home you wish to paint. And of course, then you must decide what mural you want to paint on that wall.

You have a large number of options available when deciding on your wall mural design. You may choose to take a photograph of a particular area you enjoy, such as a seascape, a mountain view, a lakeside setting, perhaps a country view, whatever appeals to you. You might possibly already have a photograph or post card of a particularly inviting scene that you like. You can get all sorts of ideas from books and magazines. Looking through them to see what murals others have painted on their walls will give you even more ideas and inspiration. If this is your first attempt, you will want to start with a simple painting, and will certainly have better results by consulting a book of wall murals with complete instructions.

Once you have definitely decided on the specific subject for your wall mural, the next step will be to get the pattern onto the wall. Unless you are very good at sketching, drawing, and free-hand painting, it will be very beneficial to lightly trace your design onto the wall as a template to follow. To achieve the desired size you want for your wall space and to get proper perspective, you can project your photo or pattern onto the wall with a projector designed specifically for this purpose. When you get it focused on the wall exactly as you want it, lightly trace around the design. This will make finishing your wall mural much easier.

For the beginner and experienced alike, there are a multitude of great instructional books which will show you numerous great ideas and step-by-step instructions for creating your own wall mural. One in particular, “Painting Wall Murals fast and easy” by Terrence and Theodore Tse gives complete instructions for painting a wall mural using various types of sponges, a method that might be appealing to you. Other great books for painting your wall mural are mentioned elsewhere in my website.

Another much simpler, but neat idea (though perhaps somewhat more expensive) is to use stencils to create your wall mural. Using Wall Light Fixtures In Your Home

Wall lights or sconces, as they are also known by, are another way of introducing more light into a room. Sconces also tend to be quite a decorative lighting fixture and this can add to the aesthetics of the room decor.

This type of lighting offers an unobtrusive and tidy little way of providing light. Wall lights do not take centre stage like a hanging pendant or the more opulent chandelier. Nor are they big and tall like floor lamps with their trailing flexes. Instead, they are neatly installed onto a wall surface although the wiring aspect can present problems as many homeowners are reluctant to drill into the wall surfaces in order to install the necessary wiring. An alternative is to have trailing cables on the wall rising from skirting board outlets.

What height to hang a pendant light is a frequently asked question. Given that wall sconce lighting can function in different ways, you need to ascertain what purpose your wall lighting will serve.
If you intend to use wall lighting as reading light in a bedroom or as task lighting in bathrooms, then the lights will need to be positioned at a height that enables you to carry out those required tasks. If you are planning on having the light from your wall lights bounce off the ceiling then you will have to install the sconces at a high enough height near the ceiling.

A lot of the wall sconces have simply evolved from other types of light fixtures. You can find wall-mounted downlighters in stores and these are simply off shoots of non-recessed ceiling downlighters.

Similarly, most designs of wall-mounted uplighters have come from the normal floor-standing uplighters. They are very similar in design, with both sharing tungsten-halogen bulbs and lamp shades made from thick glass or metal. The only differing factor is how they are mounted.

Because wall lighting is fixed to the wall, it is worth bearing in mind the sort of beam and light pattern the sconce will throw onto the wall behind it. This light pattern can vary greatly simply because there is
such a large range of designs and styles of wall lights available. From flamboyant turn-of-the-century Globe lights, so vividly reminiscent of smoky, hot cafes, to the more sleek and sophisticated hemispherical chrome fittings - different sconces will give off different patterns.

Also, if you have a translucent shade for your sconce, this will act as a diffuser for the light emanating from the light source. Otherwise, wall fittings that have the shade placed very close to the wall will mix direct, indirect and diffused light in such a way that the direct light will give a wall washing effect below whilst the ceiling above and the area of the wall behind the light will reflect light back into the room.

All of these factors need to be considered if you want to make the most of the light capabilities of your wall sconces - assuming that you are not merely installing them for decorative purposes.

Wall sconce lighting is a simple way of adding an indoor lighting fixture to your home. Sconces come in many styles and designs and it is just a matter of finding something that will fit in with your home decor.

How to Install Your Wall Mural

Congratulations! You decided to have a beautiful Wall Mural installed in your family room wall. You cannot wait to have this exquisite addition transform the entire look of your room, and who could blame you? Knowing you want a desert scene complete with cacti, mountains, and a beautiful cloud-filled sky, you chose Organ Pipe State Park, a breathtaking photograph indeed.

The family room is a great location for your Wall Mural. The wall you chose is one most easily seen when entering the room. Even better, it doesn’t even have many electrical outlets on it. Having already purchased the Wall Mural, you are now wondering about the cost of professional installation. You want to save money, right? Excellent. Well then, invite a buddy over, roll up your sleeves and set aside a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. You can even keep the game on while you install the Wall Mural yourself! Similar to hanging wallpaper, installing your Wall Mural really is not difficult.

Before you begin your project, be sure to unroll and inspect the Wall Mural panels. Be sure all the pieces are present and in good condition. To achieve the best results, please don’t wing it. Instead, consult the manufacturer's instructions. Keep them at hand and re-consult them as needed.

Prior to hanging, make sure that family room wall is clean and flat. Fix any holes or dents in the wall if there are any. Wash the wall with a mild, soapy water to remove dust and dirt. Then rinse with cool clean water on a sponge or cloth. Allow the wall to air dry completely before you start.

Now you need to determine the exact place on the wall where you will start to hang the first panel of the Wall Mural. Using a plumb bob, you can make a straight chalk line.

Select the first panel. This piece should be the upper left hand corner of the Wall Mural. On a flat clean surface, roll out the panel with the picture side down. Now apply a thin, even coat of wallpaper paste along the entire backside. Next, carefully roll the panel up inside out and let the piece lay undisturbed for a few minutes. This will help prevent it from curling when you are applying it to the wall itself.
After a few minutes, you can apply the Wall Mural panel to the intended spot marked on your wall. Position the left edge of the panel along the straight chalk line you made with the plumb bob. Carefully unroll it while aligning it with the line. Once in place, use a damp sponge or finishing brush and gently push any air pockets that may be trapped under the panel. Use gentle, sweeping movements to remove the air pockets without harming the Wall Mural image. Firmly press down on the outer edges to assure adherence of the panel to the wall.

The next panel you choose should be the one that goes directly beneath the first one. You’ll notice there is a small amount of overlap for each panel. This is to help you align the Wall Mural panels together easily yet precisely.

Now simply repeat the above process over again with each adjoining panel of the Wall Mural. Once you have the entire image hung, gently wipe over the entire Wall Mural with a damp cloth or sponge. This helps the wallpaper paste to adhere uniformly. It also helps to remove the excess paste that drips out.

Now you must allow the Wall Mural to air dry completely. Once dried, check all the seams, making sure they are glued down properly. If necessary, use some additional paste to seal any loose edges.

Well, what do you know? Your Wall Mural has transformed your family room into a beautiful rendition of Organ Pipe State Park! Wasn’t that easy?

How to Hang Your Wall Tapestry When You Have Choices

One of my favorite ways to decorate a room is to grace one or more walls with a tapestry. These woven beauties are the perfect addition to a room with almost any decorating theme or style. The choices of size and shape and theme are endless. So if a tapestry is something you have been thinking about for one or more rooms of your home or office, it's a good idea to know what your options are in respect to the way you will be hanging this art on your wall.

Depending on how you purchase your tapestry (brick and mortar store or online), there might be some basic preparation involved. Most of the time when you purchase your wall hanging for delivery to your home or office, there will be at least one fold in the tapestry that was necessary for packing your purchase for delivery. When you open your delivered wall hanging there might be a fold line or 2 in your tapestry. Don't fear. Here is a safe way to remove any unwanted fold lines in your tapestry.

To remove any fold lines in your tapestry, use a steam iron and iron the back side of the wall hanging until the fold lines are gone. Otherwise, if you don't have a steam iron, take a regular electric iron and with a damp clean cloth (cloth that the color won't bleed) and place the clean damp cloth over the front of the tapestry where the fold line is and iron at a moderate heat (NOT HOT) until the fold line is gone. These are the safest ways to remove fold lines without damaging your artwork.

All tapestry wall hangings have a basic construction in order to be able to hang them properly on a wall. Just so you understand their construction, they are all lined on the back side and have either a rod pocket or several loops at the top in which you can insert a decorative hanging rod. Some tapestries also have a bottom pocket to insert heavy metal rods in order for the wall hanging to hang straight from top to bottom.

Most tapestries are hung with a decorative rod. These rods, that are usually sold separately, come in a large variety of shapes, styles and colors. Tassels are also available in a large assortment and may be hung from the rod ends along the left and right sides of the wall hanging for a more dramatic effect.

A word of caution if you are buying a tapestry for the first time. You might want to go with a wall tapestry that has a hanging pocket instead of hanging loops. The reason for this is if the construction of the loop hanging tapestry is not done correctly, after time you might see slight curves inward between the loops of your tapestry.

A more economical way to hang your hanging pocket tapestry is to insert a wooden board approximately 1/4 inch thick by 2.5 inches tall. Cut the length of the board so that the ends will not be seen protruding from the hanging pocket at the top of the tapestry. Once you have the length of the board cut to the proper length, drill screw hole evenly along the length of the board. The amount of screw holes will be determined by the size and weight of the tapestry. Larger wall hangings will, of course, will need more support and more screws than smaller wall hangings. Once you have evenly spaced screw hole in the board, take the board, hold it up to the wall at the location the board will be when the tapestry is hung. With a pencil, mark a dot on the wall through each hole to mark where the screws will be driven into the wall to hang the tapestry.

Next, drill a small hole into the wall for each of the pencil dots you have made. It is a good idea to use screw anchors for stronger support, so after you drill the screw holes insert screw anchors into each hole. Once you have all your holes drilled and all your anchors inserted into the holes, insert the board into the hanging pocket of your tapestry and hold the tapestry up to the wall and with the proper size screw for your anchors insert each screw. This method of hanging a tapestry will mount your wall hanging flush to the wall.

If your situation calls for mounting your tapestry on a curved wall then use Velcro®. You can find Velcro tape. This form of Velcro has an adhesive backing and can be applied directly to the back side of your tapestry. You can apply Velcro tape directly on your wall, but to avoid the tearing of your wall, should you want to remove the Velcro on a future date, screw a few thin strips of wood on your wall to form a frame. Then Velcro the wooden strips instead of the wall. If the time comes to remove the tapestry, all you have are a few screw holes to patch up.

You now have several ways in which to mount your tapestry to the wall. All you have to do now is find a tapestry to match the theme of the room you wish to hang it in. Whether you choose one large wall tapestry or a series of several small tapestries with a similar theme, hung together, you will have a most enjoyable eye-pleasing atmosphere for many years to come.

Wall Stickers - Removable Wall Decor

There have been various fads for wall decor over the past decade. In the 90s, it was wall stenciling and before that it was wallpaper. Both of these options were very permanent decor options and when it comes to decorating a room that is most likely going to be changing within a year or two, these options are not ideal.

Instead of pasting paper to your walls, which is virtually impossible to remove later in life or painting on your walls, there is another option available to you. For instance, you can try a new and contemporary method of decor called wall stickers. This type of removable wall decor allows you a lot more flexibility later in the life of a particular room in your home.

There are several instances in life when you will be decorating a room that is not necessarily going to have this same decor for a long period of time. For instance, you just had a new baby so you want to do your new baby's nursery in a cute Winnie the Pooh or other Disney character design. So, you paint the walls and put up a wallpaper border, or you do the entire room in Winnie the Pooh wallpaper. Or, perhaps you do an entire wall mural of the "Hundred Acre Wood" in paint on the wall. But, what do you do when your little boy or girl decides that they are much more interested in Transformers or Barbie? Do you rip down the wallpaper and hope that you can salvage your walls? Do you cover up the paint with more paint?

Instead of having to worry about repainting walls or tearing down wallpaper, you could make life and your decorating much easier on yourself. You have several options with removable wall decor, or wall stickers. This removable wall decor is available in all of your child's favorite designs. You also have the option of wall murals, so no painting is needed, nor is an artist. You can choose from a wide variety of borders and other decor as well. If your child is a Disney fan, self-stick wall appliqués provide you with a number of different Disney and Pixar characters to select from. All are easy to put and made of heavy duty vinyl that they can peel and stick whenever the desire.

As your child grows, their tastes change. They enjoy a variety of different cartoons, movies, and even sports teams. They will probably even want to change their room's decor once every couple of years or so. This cannot only get very expensive throughout their life, but it is a time consuming process to paint, repaint and wallpaper the same room repeatedly. Removable wall decor makes it easy for them to decorate their own room. With removable wall decor, you can provide your child with a blank wall and some wall stickers and let them have at it. You can even find wall sticker growth charts so that you can track your child's growth without having to write on the walls or make notches in the doorframe.

One of the many benefits of wall decor is that you don't have to worry about the wall stickers leaving any residue. They stick to virtually any flat surface in their room, which allows your children to be as creative as they want. Your child can change the room everyday if they want. With borders, wall murals, and appliqués to choose from, they will have the flexibility of not only what designs they want, but they can decorate any way they want.

In addition, they can create a unique photomural of photos on their wall as well. These are removable wall décor that provide you with various options including wall pockets and photo frames. These allow your children to frame photos of them, their friends and family all over their walls. Wall pockets provide them with a way to store all of their little trinkets or display items on their walls.

If you're interested an easier way to decorate and keep up with your child's ever-changing decor tastes, you can keep up with them by using removable wall decor. Removable wall decor does not cost any more than what you would pay for wallpaper or paint. It's an affordable way to decorate and you can reuse the wall decals for up to two years or more.

Discover Tuscan Metal Wall Art Decorating Ideas

Tuscan metal wall art is an easy and popular way to add a touch
of personality to your home decor. If you are into rustic, country,
French country, Mediterranean, Western, Victorian, Italian or Tuscan; metal wall
art is available to enhance any of these styles of home decor. Read on to discover
how to incorporate metal art accents into your home.

The wrought iron wall crown is in high demand, as it quickly and easily
classes up other wall art. This long, narrow piece of metal wall decor
can accent a framed wall art piece or add a new dimension to a large
wall tapestry. Another application that is very attractive, is to place it above
a wall grouping, to tie it all together. For example, you may have a
small tapestry with a wall clock and add the Tuscan metal wall decor over the pair. Or a metal
wall art crown can add a upscale flair to a grouping of family pictures.
Consider hanging metal wall art above your television, a large
doorway or above a picture window. The unique shape of the metal wall art crown
lends itself to some unique applications in your home decorating arrangements.

Square, metal wall art pieces can be used in with a wall group or in
accent groups with 2 or more like metal decor pieces. Smaller, square
metal wall art pieces can be used on a small wall area just to add some dimension. Or
you may take 2, 3, or 4 coordinating pieces to create a wall grouping. Some-
thing fun and interesting to consider, is to hang some of the metal wall
art pieces at the corner in a diamond shape. If you have a nice size wall,
use a focus piece, such as a wall tapestry, large wall clock or framed art
and place 2 pieces of metal wall art on one side of the focus piece,
hanging one wrought iron piece square and stagger the 2nd wrought iron piece
and hang from the corner, in a diamond shape style. On the other side of
your focus piece, hang just one piece of wrought iron. This piece may be
of the same size as the 2 on the other side or larger, preferably a
rectangular shape metal wall art design. What a stunning, interesting
wall group. And it was all very easy and creates a homey but designer look.

You just discovered one way to use a rectangular shaped metal wall art piece.
Obviously, this wall art shape can vary in size greatly. An average size Tuscan metal art piece
can hang alone on a wall. You may also make a metal grouping, using rectangular and square
shapes. Rectangular metal wall art is also attractive with floral arrangements,
as the floral wreath or swag will add some color and softness to the metal.
The popular wall pockets would be a great addition to accent a nice rectangular wall art piece.

Again, the wall pockets may be filled with floral for a splash of color and additional texture.
Another trendy look with the wrought iron would be wall sconces. A candle
sconce will add color and new shapes to the wall. One very interesting
idea with the rectangular metal wall art piece you might want to consider is
to hang at an angle. Hang at a pleasing angle over your tv console and
then place a vase on the tabletop. This adds a lot of interest and creativity.
Add one more splash, by scrunching up a table runner under the vase and
let the ends of the runner fall over the edges of the tv cabinet top. I like the idea of using
an interesting vase--maybe with nothing in it,--but also fun would
be a unique canister and tray set, an artsy bowl or a chunky candlestick or
2 or 3--in various heights. Let your imagination go. Just watch your proportions, so one accessory does
not overshadow the other pieces and all items should be of a size to compliment
the tv console.

Large Tuscan metal wall decor has found some great places in todays homes. Whether,
square, round or rectangular, oversized metal wall art pieces, are
great when used as the headboard for your bed, in a room with cathedral
ceilings and on the large wall along your open stairway. The large metal
wall art piece can easily be used alone. But you may want to add a little
something more for added texture, dimension and color. Plus, if your wall is
huge, you can expand the look with a few choice accessory pieces. The 3
accessories that could compliment your large metal art would be candle
wall sconces, wall mirrors or wall pockets. Just remember, that your large
metal wall art will require large accessories. Large, unique wall sconces or
plushly filled wall pockets would be fabulous to add additional texture, color and
dimension. Another thought, if you employ either of these enhancements,
keep the designer look going, by hanging at staggered levels on either side
of your metal wall art. Or you may hang a long, slender mirror and a sconce or
wall pocket along just one side of your metal wall art. One of the keys here,
is that odd number of items are much easier and more pleasing to the eye
in an arrangement.

The style of metal wall art will determine what style of decor it will work best with.
Tuscan, Italian and French style home decor are really enhanced with an aged patina, with
a chunkier, rough look. Some of the most popular, trendy metal wall art is accented with leaf motifs,
and twiggy branch looks--these pieces are great with the Italian, and Country looks.

Some of the Country French decor may demand a lighter color metal
with more intricate design. Country or Nautical decor begs for a simple, antiqued look.
You may want to find some design details that emphasis these looks, such as a rope look,
nautical shapes, seashell motifs or a rivet bolt accent on the metal wall art. The right
metal wall decor piece may be a great accent in a softer, Victorian style room if you
look for more detail, such as curls, scrolls and a lighter weight feel. Keep the piece from
being too chunky.

Wall Clocks - A Must Have Element In Home Decor Recipe Ideas

History of Wall clocks

History has seen that wall clocks have played an important part in our homes. Wall clocks have been in existence for hundreds of years and have evolved into highly attractive, accurate timepieces that are available in any number of styles and designs from its crude beginnings. They have been around for decades and are excellently used for both functional and decorative purposes. Early clocks were natural progression from Huge Sundial which had a totally natural technology of telling the time of the day based on the shadows that the sun’s rays cast on the marked surfaces. Most wall clocks were then evolved from sundials – in fact, some wall clocks were purposely designed to look like old sundials. As technology changed from natural to analog, mechanical, they became large and expensive and were usually only on large public places like churches and other public buildings. Domestic wall clocks began to appear in British houses in about 1600. These early clocks, called 'chamber clocks', were of the 'lantern' type or its easier meaning, brass type because of its make from Brass. They were hung from a hook on the wall and weights hung down below them on ropes, later chains which than evolved into the most popular pendulums. There were up to three weights - for the time, the striking and sometimes also an alarm. The first clocks were made of iron; later brass became the preferred metal, often with thickly gilded dials. It took craftsmen several months to finish one. Only the kings and queens would afford the luxuries of these brass dials in their mansions and palaces. Then history saw the second revolution of large scale changes. Great Britain was the first to revamp the traditional brass dials and introduce the modern clock dials that we have today. Painted dials, heavy work wooden wall clocks soon grew in popularity and were produced for the use of the masses. During this era, wall clocks started to be used not only for timekeeping but also as decorative and commemorative pieces. British industrialist and imperialist started to use them to mark and celebrate various religious and cultural events and even famous sports and war victories. To determine how difficult the installation might be, you will need to know if you are replacing fixtures that are already there or installing lighting fixtures on the wall for the first time.

Now you should think about what type of light bulb is appropriate for the kitchen. Here you have multiple choices. Your choices are incandescent bulbs (the old standard) with a wide variety of wattages for how bright you would like the light to be. You can also choose clear or frosted incandescent bulbs. The incandescent bulbs come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes. With the relatively new CFL bulbs you have a small selection of wattages and shapes, but there are more shapes and sizes becoming available all the time. The advantage of CFL bulbs is that they use less electricity to light, so they will be a larger investment to purchase them as compared to incandescent bulbs, but CFL bulbs last much longer than incandescent light bulbs and in the long run you will save money on your electric bill which will more than pay for your CFL bulbs over time.

What you have to do now is measure the kitchen wall that you will be installing the wall mounted lighting. By measuring the wall you will get a good idea of how many and what type of lighting fixture/s you will use to light up the area. Make sure you have the correct lighting to perform the work involved in that particular part of the kitchen. Whether it is preparing food or washing dishes, the proper lighting will always make the job easier to perform.

The type of kitchen wall mounted lighting fixture you use is dependant on how much light you want to expose to the area. You need to project enough light to make your kitchen work areas a comfortable working environment. Too much light will be as uncomfortable as not enough light. You can choose what direction you would like your kitchen wall lighting to aim. You may want to aim your wall lighting downward to project lighting directly on the work area. To do this you can use wall scone lighting with opaque lamp shades aimed in a downward position.

To add indirect kitchen wall mounted lighting, use wall sconces that have opaque lamp shades that aim upward. This will light up the part of your kitchen you intended to brighten up and at the same time brighten up the entire room.

By visiting a lighting store you will also want to experiment with the different lighting directions and lamp shades such as clear, translucent or opaque. You want to be sure that your lighting decision is something that will best fit your needs, so take your time and explore the possibilities. The lighting consultant or sales person in a store dedicated to lighting can inform you on the latest industry innovations.

Try to stay within your budget. It is always better to choose two lesser expensive lighting fixtures instead of one expensive lighting fixture when the wall area calls for two fixtures. Shop online and brick and mortar because there are good deals to be found in both arenas.

If you are replacing fixtures that are already there, be sure to turn off the circuit breaker so your wiring job can be performed safely. If the job requires running new wiring to the wall and you are not an experienced electrician, then contact an electrical contractor in your area to do the job for you.

Only you know if your kitchen wall mounted lighting is accent lighting or task lighting. If you choose, you can have both of these features with the same wall lighting fixtures. Let your creativity light up the room.
